To my eyes it looked much better than the slightly older recent release of King Kong on blu-ray. And when compared to the previous DVD release it is also a significant improvement in quality. There are occasional blemishes and a few white flashes, and a few scenes which seem to have a slightly different “texture” if you will. I presume this latter is due to Warners pulling the best surviving elements which may have been from varying sources, but I cannot be sure. Suffice to say, you won’t be regretting the video quality.
Audio is good but again at mono track squarely up front and center which is fine. It sounds quite good. WB touts it perhaps a bit more than merited, as we are not talking anything comparable to today’s films, but it sounds better than it has ever sounded before. Any thankfully WB did decide to keep the sound up front and not try to create any surround or channel separation. Well done.
Highly recommended. Get it from The WB Shop, or your favorite place.
